HLC makes every effort to minimise costs of school trips and visits to parents and carers.
If a school trip is an essential part of a student’s curriculum then we ensure that the costs are reasonable and would normally request a voluntary contribution from parents. This is within the 1996 Education Act, which makes it clear that schools can request a voluntary contribution but cannot discriminate against children whose parents cannot contribute. If there is a substantial shortfall in costs then the visit may have to be cancelled.
If the visit is extra-curricular or an “optional extra” such as a ski trip then parents are normally charged for the full cost of the trip.
Parents who are in receipt of Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance or Child Tax Credit (providing that Working Tax Credit is not received) may be able to access some financial support for part of the cost of a visit, which is not an optional extra. Please contact the member of staff organising the trip for further information or Ms Hayley Mason for secondary trips and visits including Arthog (387228) and Mrs Emma Petford for primary trips and visits (387088).
The Principal operates a small discretionary fund to support parents with visits, uniform and equipment. Please contact Mrs Judy Croft, PA to the Principal (387010) if you wish further information.
