HLC has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. The International School Award is a great chance for school’s to demonstrate the important work they are doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Adding an international dimension to children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful future careers in an increasingly global community.
Here at HLC we have been focussed for three years on gaining this award through “Connecting Classrooms”, working very closely with Anquelique School in Islamabad. This has involved visits from staff to HLC from Anquelique School and our staff visiting Islamabad. These visits enable staff to observe lessons, talk to students and staff, they also work with the Senior Team. Staff from Anquelique school have also been in our Primary Phase, QHLC and The Bridge School so that they can understand the extent of education across our family of schools.
We have also had communications between students on Skype sessions and a student from Islamabad visited us during the 2014 summer term.
The work between our schools has ranged between Teaching and Learning, Assessment, Celebrations, Special Educational Needs and Behaviour systems – they now use C2s in Anquelique School! This year the project is all about community and how we engage with our community in Hadley and beyond which Anquelique school are keen to develop in their community in Islamabad.
