Year 4 Curriculum Introduction
Here at HLC the children learn through an exciting and engaging curriculum that aims to foster and nurture a love of learning. We offer all pupils a broad and balanced curriculum: providing opportunities for each child to develop their own independent learning strategies and making their learning meaningful and memorable.
In Year 4 the children will be learning through a range of topics that take them on an adventure, peering through into ‘Tomorrow’s World’ before bringing them back to Victorian Hadley, Telford, looking closely at the History of industry here. They take a class in Advanced Potion Making for beginners and learn the skills to create their own movies and scripts in Lights, Camera, Action. They step into the past by becoming Roman soldiers before diving deep into the Blue Abyss.
Our key Reading texts this term are: Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit; The Wild Robot by Peter Brown; Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo; Witches by Roald Dahl and The Lottie Project by Jaqueline Wilson to name a few. Throughout the topics, the children engage in stimulating STEM activities including building rafts for Michael, before making their own film and hosting a own premier of it to a live audience of parents and carers.
They participate in a Year 4 production during the Spring Term. Year 4 children will also have the opportunity to go on an overnight residential to work on team building and outdoor skills. We have built up fantastic links with DENSO’s Eco-Garden and children visit there on a regular basis to be involved in planting and growing.
