Homework at HLC Primary

At HLC primary we believe school and home should work in partnership to enable our children to reach their full potential. Homework, excluding Year 6, is issued weekly on a Friday and should be returned to school on Wednesday of the following week. Every week your child will be given reading, writing and maths work to complete linked to the learning they have been completing in class. At times, a longer term project linked to the current topic may be set.

You can support your child with their homework by hearing them read and asking them questions about their reading as many times throughout the week as possible. All of the children have reading journals and teachers love seeing your responses inside these. Spelling needs to be done daily and you can help by looking at the patterns in spellings and finding out the meaning of the words. Maths work will vary but is always linked to work completed in class. Ensuring that your children’s handwriting is consistently and that letters are accurately form will support with the work that teachers are completing in class.

Resources for Parents

“I am always happy with the information that I get from the school about my child. I know exactly what my child needs and what topics we can work on at home.”
