Year 1 & 2
In Key Stage 1, we continue to build on the solid foundations from the Early Years and provide lots of opportunities for learning through play and practical, meaningful learning opportunities. The children are still developing their vocabulary and a focus is placed on oracy within all lessons. The children are encouraged to continue applying their growing skills confidently, enthusiastically and as independently as possible. Reading continues to remain a high priority in Year 1 and the children have daily phonics lessons, developing knowledge and skills to become confident readers and writers. The children have a statutory Phonics screening check in the Summer term.
The children in Year 2 continue to work hard and enjoy the challenge of the new learning and harder work within a more structured curriculum. They have their Key Stage 1 Statutory tests (SATs) in the summer term and have a couple of opportunities within the year to prepare for these. The children are eager to do their very best and as they move into Year 3 continue their passion for learning.
