On Tuesday 28th March we held a Spelling Parent Workshop Afternoon. Parents were shown the high expectations of children’s spelling in each year group and how we teach spelling here at HLC. The parents were also shown the different strategies we use in school to support the children’s spelling and progress. Teachers taught engaging and fun spelling activities in class, where the parents had the opportunity to see their children learning. The children enjoyed showing their parents how they learnt new spelling patterns and rules and how they work in their classroom. We had some wonderful and fun activities in classes like scrabble, matching games and spelling pyramids.
We had very positive feedback from parents –
” I really enjoyed seeing my child working in class, they enjoyed playing the game.”
“Spelling is fun”
“I now know the expectations for spelling”
“It was interesting to see how school teaches spelling and the strategies they use in school.”
“I will definitely be using this at home!”
Below are the presentation and resources from the afternoon.
