This week, year 5 have been learning about the political system in the UK and discovering more about the political parties involved in the General Election. We have had some fierce debates and very strong viewpoints shared! There are some superb potential politicians amongst us who are passionate about our country, and particularly concerned about the social effects of an election.
On Thursday, after reading, analysing and debating each party’s manifesto, we made an informed vote at our own polling station! We are going to reveal our winner tomorrow, and see if we agree with the rest of the country.
After hearing today’s official results, and watching Theresa May’s acceptance speech, Year 5 counted their votes from yesterday’s informed poll. Interestingly, the children have shown highest support for the Green Party, closely followed by Labour. This was also the result in year 4 where the Green Party won with a landslide majority! Having read their manifesto, more children also showed their belief in the Liberal Democrats.
The children are desperate to have their say on changes in the world around them, and it is exciting to think about the decisions they will make in the future.
