Pastoral Support Manager
Our Pastoral Support Manager works with children who move to our school at any point other than the start of Reception. As a school we understand that changing schools can be difficult for children and parents, our Pastoral Support Manager aims to make this easier.
As the first point of contact for parents of children new to our school she supports a smooth start for new children.
Prior to children starting they are given a tour of the school and introduced to key staff. On their first day they are met at the door and taken to their classroom, quickly learning where to put their bag and coat. In class support is provided to ensure they settle quickly into the routines and systems at HLC. Following discussion with children and parents a plan is developed to support learning in key areas of the curriculum. This can include 1:1 additional support to familiarise them with school methods for calculation or additional reading at regular points throughout the week. The support is personalised to each child to support them to make a good start at HLC.
Another key aspect of the role is to liaise with the child’s previous school to ensure they continue to progress in their learning through the period of transition.
