From September 2014 we are introducing the new Primary Curriculum. Our teachers plan a broad and balanced curriculum with a range of engaging learning opportunities. We work closely across the whole school to ensure there is good progression in learning from Early Years to Year 6. Teachers and Support Staff work together through planning meetings to differentiate our curriculum to individual needs and priorities. Teachers meet with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher termly to review the curriculum coverage and to further refine planning to provide exciting opportunities for children to learn. Each year group plans as a team to ensure that children in every class have the same opportunities as their peers.
Some lessons in the Primary Phase are delivered by secondary specialist teachers. For example this year; Year 5 are enjoying additional science over in the Secondary Laboratories, Year 6 are accessing the theatre and learning new dance and drama techniques and Early Years are enjoying singing with our secondary specialist. This adds a great depth and quality to our curriculum and supports our class teachers in ensuing all our children reach their full potential. These lessons are planned with the children’s class teacher and link to work completed in class.
All children in KS2 have weekly Spanish lessons delivered by a secondary teacher. They are really enjoying learning a new language.
The school’s exciting curriculum benefits from links with the federated secondary and special schools. It engages pupils’ interests with its creative mixture of subjects, emphasis on literacy and numeracy, and enriching experiences.’ … ‘The curriculum is imaginatively organised around a set of themes. The curriculum is well planned to meet pupils’ needs and interests
