Welcome to Queensway HLC
Queensway HLC became part of the Hadley Learning Community in September 2013 and is a specialist provision that caters for the needs of children who have an SEN statement with a diagnosis of autistic spectrum condition (ASC). The school is housed in a fantastic, modern building designed and equipped specifically to support autistic children. It is located about 5minutes from HLC main campus on the A442, direction Whitchurch.
In May 2014 Queensway HLC was awarded the ‘Certificate of Quality Autism provision’ by the National Autistic Society reflecting the high standard of autistic provision the school can offer. We were also awarded a National Commendation reflecting the excellent standard of environment we provide to enable students to learn to the best of their ability.
Currently, students join the school in Year 6 and spend their secondary education with us; they may well access their post-16 education from Queensway in partnership with Telford College of Arts and Technology (TCAT).
Students are taught in groups of 5/6 by a team of specialist teachers and at least one teaching assistant. Students are taught the full range of the curriculum but it is tailored to meet their individual needs. Our staff are well trained to use a wide variety of teaching strategies to support their learning. We have high expectations of all our students and expect them to make good progress and leave school with GCSE qualifications so they can access further education. Students can also access specialist GCSE courses, at HLC Secondary Phase, with the support of Queensway staff.
At Queensway HLC we provide a highly supportive, caring environment for young people, with autism, for whom a main stream school is too overwhelming. We consider that relationships between school and home are vitally important and parents are contacted regularly and frequently visit the school to discuss their child’s progress.
Queensway HLC was inspected in October 2013 and graded “Good” and inspectors stated “The effectiveness of Queensway HLC Autistic Unit is good. Students are well cared for and good teaching is enabling them to achieve well”.
