Year 7 Transition Update

Dear Parent/ Carer,

As September draws closer, we hope you are all becoming more excited to start at HLC and moving towards the normality we all need.  I am very much looking forward to the new academic year and especially to meeting all of our new students in September.

The new school year will be a fresh start for us all, whilst your child will take their first step on a new adventure in our school, I am also beginning a different chapter in my career as I have recently been appointed as Headteacher of HLC Secondary.

I have worked at HLC from its first day of opening and am committed to continuing to embed and drive the high expectations and standards that are integral to our school. We are proud to be at the heart of our community and the relationship between students, parents and staff is the driving force of our school, an ethos that I am dedicated to continuing.  I look forward to working with you as I strive to ensure that HLC continues to go from strength to strength.

Unfortunately, the challenges caused by Covid19 have meant we could not deliver our normal transition model, but I am delighted to inform you that the first day of the Autumn Term (Wednesday 2nd September) has been dedicated to Year 7 students only. This will be a valuable transition day for all new students to get to know us as a school before we invite in other year groups throughout the week.

You will be pleased to know that we have put together a robust response to the Government Covid19 guidance and are therefore confident that we can keep your child safe whilst continuing to offer a full broad and rich curriculum.  Lessons will be exciting, and your child will make the rapid progress that is so important following a long period of lockdown.

We have ensured that we have responded to all areas of the guidance and have arranged for the following changes to our school organisation:

  • Clear hygiene procedures for regularly cleaning hands and cleaning of the school building.
  • Staggered start times, end times, breaks and lunches to ensure Year 7 students and other year groups have as little contact as possible.
  • One-way system around the school
  • A full risk assessment will be made available on our website once all arrangements have been confirmed.

I know you will have lots of questions about starting HLC so please do not hesitate to contact any member of the transition team or myself who will be happy to support you.

Thank you again for your ongoing support throughout this difficult period and for choosing Hadley Learning Community as the school for your child. I look forward to them being part of our school community for 5 years.

Yours faithfully,

Mr D. Roycroft
Secondary Headteacher
