As you may be aware, a student who attends HLC Secondary has tested positive for Covid-19. The test was carried out on Sunday and the student had not attended HLC during the time frame that is deemed as infectious by Public Health England.
Despite this, as a precaution, and because the health and wellbeing of our students and staff is our primary concern, we closed down the group that the student had been with, sending all students and staff associated with this group home to self-isolate and be tested. This was done immediately when we were informed by the child’s parent this Monday morning not on the previous Wednesday as inaccurately reported in the Shropshire Star last night.
We have worked closely with Public Health England, Telford and Wrekin Health Protection Hub and our families to ensure that our response has been appropriate, timely and safe.
We have been in constant communication with our families involved and they have been delighted with the support and advice we have given. I want to thank them personally for the calm and positive way they have approached what is a difficult situation.
As I am sure you can imagine, it has been a difficult couple of days for the families and staff involved but we firmly feel that our fast acting, cautious and collaborative response has supported the safety and wellbeing of our students and teachers.
The young man involved is well and has recovered quickly as he had no symptoms, we send our best wishes to his family.
Mr Paul Roberts
