Parent Update 5th Jan 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

In light of the information shared by Boris Johnson yesterday evening, I would like to update you on the current school position. We will now be reverting back to a skeleton staffing structure in school as we have been directed to deliver all learning remotely until informed otherwise.

This means that staff in school will be operating on a rota basis. The staff in school will be supporting identified vulnerable and key worker students to complete the schoolwork that has been set online. This will ensure that we do not create any gaps in learning between cohorts of students that are in school and those that are at home. We will look to create new bubbles in school, these will be consistent for this period and may contain mixed year groups.

Given the high transmissibility of the new virus, I would ask you to only send your child to school if they are vulnerable, or if by not sending them to school you would be unable to carry out your critical work. Please, at your earliest convenience, confirm your intention to continue to send your child to school or not by emailing keyworker.hlcparents@lct.education

The safety of our students, families and staff remains our highest priority, please therefore do not send your child to school if they are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms. Please ensure that all students attend with a face mask and follow our stringent risk assessment.

Given the sudden change in circumstance, we will be meeting today to review our long-term home learning package and will be sending you updated details throughout the day.

Our plan for remote learning today is as follows:

  • Form Time at 10am or 10.15am for all students. This is an essential wellbeing check and will be used to share key information. Please ensure your child attends.
  • Year 7 – 9: Independent learning will be provided today in line with the timetable shared in the letter you received yesterday from Mrs Bedford. We will provide live Teams lessons moving forwards and will send further information on this as soon as it is confirmed. Independent learning work can be found in the SharePoint folders using the link https://telfordeducation.sharepoint.com/:f:/r/sites/TawA01/Secondary/Shared%20Documents/Student%20 Resources?csf=1&web=1&e=ZLPU6L
  • Year 10: Independent study and Teams lessons will be delivered in line with the timetable shared in the letter you received yesterday from Mrs Bedford.
  • Year 11: Teams lessons will be delivered in line with the timetable shared in the letter you received yesterday from Mrs Bedford.

If any staff / departments are being used to support our vulnerable students and children of key workers or are themselves unwell and are therefore unable to deliver their Teams lessons we will let you know via email and through a Teams communication with your child.

We appreciate your patience whilst we adapt our remote learning provision to respond to the latest government guidance.

As pointed out by our Prime Minister, we are hopefully entering the last phase of the struggle with COVID. I remain optimistic that together we will make sure our children are well supported throughout these difficult weeks. As always, thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind Regards,

Daniel Roycroft
Secondary Headteacher
