Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.Steve Jobs
At HLC we aim to furnish our students with the knowledge, passion, experience and drive to confidently take their place in the business world. We achieve this through a comprehensive careers curriculum, alongside the teaching of what a business is and the systems, principles and processes that underpin the establishment and successful running of a company. We provide students with the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice through the Young Enterprise programme, which our students have consistently been very effective in over a number of years, winning a number of awards each year. We firmly believe that as a vocational course it is essential that we expose our students to the successes and risks that are innate in any business venture, whilst furnishing them with the analytical and evaluative skills to reflect on, and learn from, these experiences.
Our students are taught to develop a comprehensive understanding of the issues that influence business success, both internally and externally. They develop a holistic understanding of the ways in which these factors are interdependent and interconnected. They then apply this learning when they evaluate businesses’ performance by using their financial management skills, including carrying out increasingly complex financial analytical calculations.
To bring this curriculum to life, we establish major links with local businesses; sole traders and multinational manufacturing companies which can also support their goals for work experience and potential work placements. Business Studies will help them to go on to achieve their potential, not just at A Level but in Higher Education.
Business Studies is a GCSE/Vocational subject available when students have completed their options and embark on Key Stage 4. So that our students have practical experience in the subject, we have chosen BTEC Enterprise and Retail Business are our 2 qualifications, both of which are vocational and have a fair amount of coursework.
Both courses also have exams. Practice papers and revision lessons have been written specifically for our students on these courses and made available on 2 bespoke youtube channels. These will be used as homework and prior lesson learning, once per week.
